Student
Success Initiative
In the fall of 2000, the College launched the Student Success Initiative to ensure
that Kilian students had the necessary assistance and support services to be
successful in reaching their academic and life goals. The centerpiece of the
Initiative is the Student Success Center, which provides a variety of academic
assistance to students. Counseling services are available at no charge to students
and their families. Services include, personal, couples, and family counseling,
support, educational, and therapy group experiences, and numerous mental and
physical wellness activities.
An instructor in the student's field of study
provides academic advising and is assigned to each new student at the time of
admission. Every new student takes a COMPASS placement test to ensure they are
placed in the right introductory course during their first semester. An Introduction
to College Studies class is required of all new students during their first semester.
This course introduces new students to the college environment, presents a series
of study skills and techniques, and provides the student with a number of opportunities
for self-discovery. Taken together, the elements of the Student Success Initiative
have proven very valuable to student success and are
one more example of the College's commitment to its students. |
