KILIAN & COMMUNITY EVENTS:

Sidewalk Arts Festival:  Sat, September 11 from 9:00 - 5:00 on Main Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls. 

2010 German Fest:  Falls Park West on September 11 beginning at 2:00 pm. 

Spirit of the West:  Sept 17-Sept 19 at 6200 N Kiwanis Ave (north of 60th and Kiwanis).  $10 adults, $8 seniors, children under 12 are FREE!  Food, entertainment and more!

Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk:   Sept 18th - 9:00 - Sertoma Park.  Jenny at 339-4543.

Festival of Books:  Sept 24-26! Events at the Holiday Inn City Centre, Orpheum Theater and Multi-Cultural Center.  More than 40 well-known authors.  Many FREE activities such as book signings, presentations, panel discussions and readings for the whole family!  Call 605-688-4531 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Reel Dakota Film Festival:  Sept 24-25  - Washington Pavilion.  One of the largest film festivals in the midwest! 

Volunteer Sioux Falls 2010:  Sat, Sept 25.  A community-wide day of volunteerism.  Dial 211 or visit www.helplinecenter.org for more information.

10th Annual United Way Reading Festival:  October 16 from 9-12 at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall.  Performances, hands-on activities and a free book to each child who attends.  Storybook characters in costume!  FREE literacy event for families with young children!  For more information contact the Sioux Empire United Way!

ZooBoo:  Oct 22-24 at the Great Plains Zoo.  This is a safe, non-scary Halloween event for the entire family.  Guides to help you explore the lighted paths throughout the zoo as you trick-or-treat at a variety of booths.  Visit www.greatzoo.org for more information.

Walk to Beat ALS:  Oct 23 at 9:00 am at the Empire Mall (Caribou Coffee entrance).  Fundraising event benefiting the ALS Association.  No reg fee; Participants encouraged to raise at least $25.00. Contact Krista at 888-672-0484.

8th Annual Spooktacular Trails - Walk in the Park:  October 30th 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Big Sioux Recreation Area near Brandon.  A trick or treat trail will lead you through the dark woods of the rec area with lots of chances for the kids to get treats & prizes.  Participation FREE, but park entrance is required.  For more information, call 582-7243.

Trick or Treat at the Empire Mall:  October 31 starting at 4:00 pm.  Bring you little ones for safe, fun trick-or-treating!

2010 Winter Wonderland Kick Off:  Nov 20th at 6:00 pm at Falls Park.  FREE!  Horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday music, ice sculptures, cookies and hot chocolate.  Visit Santa & Mrs. Clause and meet the reindeer.  Park downtown & ride the trolley.  Lights will continue to display nightly through Jan 2, 2011.

Downtown Holidays:  Sat Nov 27, Dec 4, Dec 11 and Dec 18.  Santa at Shriver's Square (230 S Phillips).  Horse-drawn wagon rides.  FREE admission!

Connecting Kids Free or Reduced Activity:  Cards can be used to enroll your child (K-8) in a free or reduced activitiy of your choice.  Please call the Sioux Empire United Way at 336-2095 with any questions you may have.

Sioux Empire Arts Council:  There are many local art events!  Visit www.siouxempireartscouncil.com!

Old Courthouse Museum:  The museum is west of Kilian on 6th street.  Call 367-4210 for information.

Sioux Empire Family Foundations:  This United Way program is open to all local families with small children.  Get together with neighbors & teachers & spend "family night" with loved ones.  367-7963 

Sioux Falls Parks & Rec:  Affordable activities year round!  For a schedule as well as information on the local community centers, visit www.siouxfallsparks.org!
