Course Credit

ACADEMIC CREDIT A college credit is a unit of measure used to quantify achievement in a college course, program or degree. A credit includes not just time in class, but also academic achievement. A student may obtain academic credit by completing course requirements as outlined in the various course descriptions. The standard for a three-semester credit course is 44 hours of total classroom instruction, plus the necessary hours outside of class to complete requirements. All credits require accomplishment of learning objectives established by the College and consistent with those of similar courses at other accredited institutions of higher learning.

The increased use of technology in education has modified the concept of how colleges award credit. Courses that are all on-line or hybrids stress acquisition of concepts and skills rather than time spent in a classroom. Students in such courses are expected to gain the required concepts and skills by involvement in independent activities designed and directed by qualified faculty.

COURSE SEQUENCING & PREREQUISITES Courses at Kilian Community College are designated by a course prefix followed by a 100 or 200 sequence.
