Return to Title IV Funds Policy
Students who completely withdraw from all classes from Kilian Community College may be eligible for a refund. A large amount of the financial aid that our students receive comes from Federal Title IV Funds. The federal statutory and regulatory citations that is used to determine earned Title IV Funds at the time of withdrawal is in Section 484B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, (Title IV, HEA) and 34 CFR 668.22.

  • Students that withdraw during the first week of the semester will be assessed no tuition and fee charge and will receive no financial aid.
  • The student must contact our Register and officially withdraw. Institutional cost and earned financial aid can only be determined after the student officially withdraws from all classes.
  • If no withdrawal date can be determined, Kilian Community College will use the mid-point of the term as the date of withdrawal.
  • Kilian Community College will use the same formula to determine institutional cost as they do for earned financial aid.
  • Students that withdraw during the first week of the semester will be assessed no tuition and fee charge and will receive no financial aid.
  • Institutional cost includes tuition and instructional support fee.
  • Financial aid includes Federal Pell Grants, Federal Academic Competitiveness Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Stafford Loans, Federal PLUS Loans, Private Loans, outside scholarships, and Kilian Community College administered scholarships.
  • The formula: Semester calendar days to date of withdrawal divided by calendar days in semester = Percentage of institutional cost incurred and financial aid earned.
  • After the student completes 60 percent of the semester, all cost and financial aid is considered earned for the semester.
  • Returning unearned aid is the responsibility of the college and the student. Example: at the beginning of the semester the student receives an overage check from their financial aid to help with living expenses. If part of the overage check is considered unearned aid, the student must return it.
  • After the student completes 60 percent of the semester, all cost and financial aid is considered earned for the semester.
  • When returning unearned Title IV Funds, they are returned in the following order:
    1. Unsubsidized Federal Loan
    2. Subsidized Federal Loan
    3. Federal PLUS Loan
    4. Federal Pell Grant
    5. Federal ACG
    6. Federal SEOG
